What is a gloss?Hair glosses are a type of demi-permenant haircolor that help to refresh, tone, and enhance the look of your hair color. Demi-permanent basically means that the color will gradually fade over time. The reason this happens is that the haircolor molecules simply coat the strands of the hair rather than dive deep into the hair’s cuticle. By laying on top of the strand, the hair remains soft, shiny and smooth.

Why does Blond hair go brassy?Simply put, Hair is made up of 80% Keratin protein and the color of that protein is yellow/orange/red. Whenever we lighten hair chemically these colors are exposed and we apply a demi peminant gloss to neutralize these tones. These toners typically last 5-8weeks if you use the best shampoo and heat protectors, after which the yellow tones are exposed again. You can help solve this issue at home by using Blondage or Brownlight systems but most of the time I advice getting a gloss refresh and protein treatment 6 weeks after getting a lightening service. This keeps your look at it's best.

Is it true that dirty hair grabs color better? The theory behind this actually came from a time when hair color was alot more agressive then it is today and your natural oils would act as a barrier to protect the scalp. Today dyes are alot softer and the oil barrier might actually prevent the dyes from working, especially if you are using an oil based color. So it actually perfect if you cleanse your hair well the day before your appointment and avoid products that have wax or oils (such as root touch up sprays)
